The Minister of Immigration, Safety and Security, Lucia Iipumbu, described the arrival of the new Deputy Minister as having strengthened the foundation on which the security and identity of Namibia rests.

The ministry welcomed Deputy Minister Edward Wambo, who was appointed recently.

"I have personally watched your journey with great pride and quiet confidence. Our paths have crossed over the years in the shared arena of public service, first in the spirited corridors of the Hardap Region, where you served as a constituency councillor in Rehoboth for a sizeable number of years. Of course, I recall with fondness the many conversations we shared about building a secure Namibia, that is inclusive and prosperous for every citizen."

Iipumbu stated that mutual respect forged such moments.

"And we will celebrate victories one by one together with a bigger family of the Ministry of Home Affairs, which we have been given the responsibility to steer. Here at Home Affairs, you will feel that what we have built is not only a working relationship but also a bond of purpose that is rooted in love for our nation and a solemn promise to serve our people with integrity and excellence."

Wambo said he looks forward to serving the nation with excellence and is committed to strengthening key areas that are central to the mandate of the ministry and ensuring internal security through effective internal affairs management.

He noted that he joined a solid foundation and will build upon positive efforts already in place.

"An institution whose vision is to establish a globally acclaimed population register and migration management system that is recognised as one of the best. I also understand that this vision is aligned with Namibia's sixth National Development Plan and Vision 2030, aiming to contribute meaningfully to the aspirations of the people of this nation."
