Namibian wrestlers have returned home with a haul of five medals following a successful outing at the African Wrestling Championships held in Alexandria, Egypt. Organized by United World Wrestling, the continental showpiece featured athletes from approximately 32 countries and served as a vital preparation ground for upcoming international fixtures, including the Youth Olympic Games.

The competition saw Namibian athletes testing their skills across freestyle, Greco-Roman, and beach wrestling categories. National Head Coach Luis Forcelledo Paz expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, particularly highlighting the progress of the younger competitors."I am the national coach of the Namibia Wrestling Federation. I want to say thank you to the federation for selecting this group to participate in the African Championship. I'm very proud and happy with the results. All the wrestlers competed well, but especially those in the under-17 cadet category. The way they were wrestling shows they are preparing well for the Youth Olympic Games."

Among the standout performers was Ester Abraham, who secured two medals for the delegation, including a podium finish in the beach wrestling category.

Lisas Shipopyeni also made a significant impact, claiming two medals across both Greco-Roman and beach wrestling. Shipopyeni noted that the focus now shifts toward upcoming global competitions later this year."Thank you to the Namibian Wrestling Federation for trusting me. I am proud to bring the medal back home, and I will continue preparing for the Youth Olympics in November. I also want to thank my coach."

Further adding to the tally, Petrus Haimbodi earned a silver medal in the Greco-Roman category, rounding off a strong showing for the Namibian delegation.

The team’s success in Alexandria marks a positive step for Namibian wrestling on the continental stage as the federation continues to build momentum toward the Youth Olympic Games and other future international events.
