As Namibia joined the rest of the continent in commemorating Africa Day, conversations around human rights, youth empowerment and African unity took centre stage, with those speaking on the Good Morning Namibia programme urging Africans both on the continent and in the diaspora to work collectively toward the continent's development.

Zimbabwe's ambassador to Namibia, Melody Chaurura, emphasised the importance of African unity and how it has become an achievement.

Chaurura highlighted how African nations are strengthening ties through trade, education, culture and diplomacy, proving that unity is key to the continent's growth.

"A general state of conflict in many parts of Africa. But today we can boast, and proudly so, of a more stable and peaceful Africa, a more stable and united Africa. And I think this can be counted as one of the biggest milestones that we have achieved on the continent because without unity and peace, there is no development we can talk about."

National training coordinator at Women's Action for Development (WAD), Absai Kashululu, said Africa Day remains an important reminder of the continent's struggle against colonialism and the continued need to promote equality, justice and constitutional rights.

"Promoting human rights, talking about human rights, education in human rights and about equalities amongst people, not just about colours or ethnicity or religious or political affiliation, but it's more about bringing equality even between men and women. And also talking about creating a just environment."

The founder of the African Diaspora Youth Hub is Eugenia Boateng.

Eugenia Boateng, founder of African Diaspora Youth Hub, adds, "Africa Day is not just a celebration of history, but it's a celebration of a milestone.

"It's a reminder of responsibility, connection and possibility. It's a moment to reflect on how far the continent has come but also where we still need to go collectively as Africans, both on the continent and across the diaspora."
