President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has visited the Etunda Green Scheme project in the Omusati Region today as part of her regional agricultural tour.

On Friday Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah assessed the banana and grape plantations, production sites and a feedlot construction site.

The high-level visit also included the minister in the presidency, Charles Mubita; the minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform (MAFWLR), Inge Zamwaani; the minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Emma Theofelus; amongst others.

The president was impressed by the various projects undertaken at the government-owned green scheme.
The president was briefed on the status of the various projects as well as the green scheme.

Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed the significance of the green scheme projects in Etunda and the country at large, saying they were created to contribute towards the country's food security and minimise reliance on other countries.

Over the years the Etunda irrigation scheme has faced challenges of high electricity and water utility bills which threaten its productivity and sustainability.

The president says she will be visiting various green schemes across the country's 14 regions to be kept abreast and get a hands-on view of what is on the ground.
The scheme continues to produce a variety of fruits and vegetables, hiring up to 450 casual employees annually.
