The Chief Executive Officer of Luderitz Waterfront Development Company (LWDC), Fluksman Samuehl, provided assurance that the company will continue to champion economic drive through a smart city approach.
He made the remarks at the inauguration of conference facilities and a foyer at the Luderitz Old Power Station Auditorium, managed by the Luderitz Waterfront Development Company.
The inaugurated conference venues are named after the late Nama sub-tribe !Aman leader Gaob Cornelius Fredericks and the first mayor of Luderitz, Susan Harris.
The foyer was dedicated to the late Seloma Julius, a former board member of the Waterfront Company's board.
Samuehl described the late individuals as leaders in their own right and people's servants, who had persevered in whatever they did for humanity.
"We are a team of no sleep, 24 hours around the clock. And anything that is in the way of people-centred development, we will not be very kind to that. We will be aggressive to achieve what we have set for ourselves, and we do not see that anyone will be in the way. Because the plans that we have are very ambitious. We want to ensure that this place becomes the Dubai of Namibia.
Relatives of the late individuals honoured through the conference venues and foyer expressed gratitude for the recognition.
Timoteus Fredrick is a member of the !Aman Royal House.
"I would like us to take one more minute of silence for the great hearts of Cornelius and the two mothers, who have meaning to this very place in which we stand and the land on which we stand; this is a sacred land."
Dr Taime Sylvester, granddaughter of the late Susan Harris, states, "To have her remembered in this way, in the heart of the town she gave her life to, means more to our family than we can easily express. We thank you for keeping her name alive. We thank you for remembering not only what she did but also who she was. She would be so proud. Though she would never say so."
"Thank you so much for the respect, the honour, and the prestigious recognition that you are giving my mom . The Julius family will be forever grateful. May the Lord bless you,"says daughter of late Seloma Julius, Cathy Julius.
Lüderitz mayor Brigitte Frederick called on those in leadership positions to honour the three late individuals through good governance.
"May the ideologies and values of these great men and women continue to guide us in the future, a future marked by new economic realities and global challenges."
