Namibia's para athletics community gathered at Independence Stadium on Friday for a fundraising event aimed at supporting athletes preparing for international competitions, including the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

The event brought together para athletes, corporate representatives, supporters, and sports stakeholders for a day of competition, awareness, and fundraising. On the track, para athletes showcased their abilities in sprint events, while supporters and representatives from corporate organisations participated to demonstrate their support for the development of para sport in Namibia.

NBC Sport spoke to one of the event organisers, Matjiua Rukoro, who highlighted the importance of the initiative. Rukoro explained that the event was not only intended to raise funds but also to create awareness and encourage greater support for para athletes as they prepare for future international competitions.

Para athletes who took part in the event, including Ananias Shikongo and Lahja Ishitile, welcomed the turnout and support from the public and the corporate sector. They noted that fundraising initiatives such as this help address some of the financial challenges associated with preparing for international competitions.

Representatives from several companies—including Napuumue Hengari from NAMRA, Erykah Talaya from Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, and Stefanus Sheehama from Mondjila Projects Advisory and Management—also participated in the activities and shared their experiences. They commended the athletes' commitment and stressed the importance of supporting initiatives that promote inclusion and equal opportunities in sport.

The event concluded with organisers expressing appreciation for the support received and encouraging more stakeholders to contribute towards the preparation of Namibia's para athletes for future international competitions, including Los Angeles 2028.
