The Blouwes Primary School has received a major boost to improve learning and living conditions at its community hostel following a donation of furniture by Debmarine Namibia.
The donation was officially handed over during a ceremony held in Blouwes Village.
The donated furniture includes mattresses, beds, side tables, chairs, a washing machine, a drying machine, rugs, a couch, duvets, blankets, pillowcases, laundry baskets and various kitchen appliances and utilities.
Since 2020, the diamond mining giant has extended support to community hostels in the ||Kharas Region through donations of bedding and essential household items.
Willy Mertens, CEO of Debmarine Namibia, said, "These contributions reflect our commitment to uplifting communities, strengthening education, and supporting health and wellbeing. Today's donation continues the journey. These items are not just objects; they are symbols of care, of partnership, and of hope for a brighter future for our children."
Mertens said the generous gesture is part of Debmarine Namibia's efforts to meet the government through investing in communities directly.
The Governor of ||Kharas, Dawid Gertze, said the donation hand-over demonstrates the power of partnership, spirit of social corporate responsibility, and commitment of the private sector to nation-building.
"It represents hope, it gives dignity, and it gives us an opportunity. It represents a belief that our children, no matter how far they are removed from urban life, deserve a comfortable place to sleep, a proper desk to study on, and an environment that is conducive for learning."
"This partnership between the private sector and our public institutions remains a cornerstone of our development strategy in ||kharas Region. As learners, you might have seen the items; these gifts are a silent message for you. And this is coming from the pope in the country and people in the region, as well as from our leaders: you do matter for all of us," said Nicolas Eiman, ||Kharas Education Director.
Eiman reminded learners and parents that education is a shared responsibility, urging them to take ownership of the donated items.
The Blouwes community expressed gratitude for the helping hand.
The principal of Blouwes Primary School, Andy Gariseb, added that "it is an investment in the wellbeing of our learners." It is a statement that our children and their educational journey deserve support."
The donation is valued at N$200,000. Part of the items were also donated to Coenbult Agricultural Farm.
