Kunene Governor will launch a Capital Foundation in Opuwo on the 28th of this month.

The foundation is an initiative of Kunene Governor Vipuakuje Muharukua aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, supporting emerging enterprises, and empowering communities.

Earlier this week in Windhoek, the Foundation received a donation of about N$300,000 from Karibu Fishing.

The funds are earmarked to stimulate rural enterprises and to create sustainable economic development for especially the youth, women, and aspiring entrepreneurs in the Kunene Region.

The Chairperson of Karibu Fishing, Rachel Kamwi, said the donation is a demonstration of the company's commitment to give back to the communities, forming the backbone of the Namibian nation.

“We are encouraged by the Foundation's efforts to support vulnerable individuals and community development initiatives through the Kunene region, and we trust that this contribution will further contribute to those noble objectives.”

Governor Muharukua pointed out that it is the responsibility of the regional council to ensure that every dollar reaches the maximum number of beneficiaries in the region.
He said Kunene is one of the regions with the lowest number of business establishments in the country.

“It is imperative that in our localities in the furthest areas of the region, we support microenterprises in the most remote areas of the Kunene region. It is our determination that this money will reach at least 14 microenterprises at N$20,000 each.”

Also speaking at the occasion was Deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade, Jenelly Matundu.

“I am happy to witness the handing over of this donation, which reflects the shared commitment of the private sector and the regional leadership to promote entrepreneurship and improve livelihoods across the region.”

Deputy Secretary General of the Swapo Party, Uahekua Herunga, also gave his input.

“It is very important to look at disadvantaged people, and this time around you look at the Kunene region, one of the most disadvantaged regions in the country, so your decision to assist the office of the governor is so commendable.”

The Chairperson of the Kunene Regional Council, Uakaisiua Muharukua, expressed gratitude, saying the donation will have a definite impact on the people of Kunene.
