Teenage pregnancy continues to be a pressing concern in the Ohangwena Region, with over 10,000 recorded from 2021 until 2025.

Ohangwena Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa revealed the statistics during the Miss World Namibia send-off gala dinner at Eenhana.

She commended Miss World Namibia 2026, Elly Aron, for her week-long campaign in the region aimed at raising awareness and combating teenage pregnancy.

Hamutumwa emphasised the government's response.

“The message she has shared with the learners is one of hope and resilience. It reminds them that their education should come first while the government continues to address this challenge. Young leaders, like Elly Aron, thank you so much for returning home to support the government's efforts. Through you, we see humanity and compassion. You have reminded us that true beauty is not in appearance but in how you help others.”

Aron also pledged to support four learners from two schools in the region with full school uniforms for a period of five years.

Vietnam is hosting the 75th-anniversary edition of the Miss World pageant from 09 August until 05 September.
