A farmer in the Vaalgras district in the ||Kharas Region received the surprise of his life when one of his goats delivered a highly unusual and rare litter.

The goat gave birth to six kids.

This is just short of a world record, which is set at seven kids.

The farmer, Kenneth Hangue, at Farm Nuweputs said the ewe and five of the sextuplets are doing well, making the lamb windfall even more remarkable. The sixth kid unfortunately died shortly after birth.

"I witnessed the delivery of the kids. I also assisted with the delivery of the fourth kid, and after that, she delivered the fifth. Later that night, she delivered a sixth kid, but unfortunately, due to the cold weather, the sixth kid did not survive. The other five are alive and well and are healthy. The ewe is also healthy but a little weak, so we have started giving her supplements. For me, this is a very rare occurrence. It is a historic event in the communal farming fraternity that I am part of. I am excited, happy, and also shocked because I did not expect this."

That is not the only miracle at the farm.

"Yesterday afternoon, I was surprised again by one of my ewes. She gave birth to four lambs, and all of them are healthy. The mother is also doing well. I am amazed by how these ewes are giving birth. About ten of them have given birth to twins."

Hangue also seized the opportunity to share some of his farming practices, encouraging fellow farmers to provide nutritional supplements to ewes before and after lambing to promote healthy births and recovery.
