The Namibia Fisheries and Corporate Intra-Tournament Cup, also known as the Fishing Industry Wellness and Sport Games, was launched in Walvis Bay last Friday to promote unity, employee wellness, and teamwork across Namibia's fishing and corporate sectors. The launch brought together various fishing companies and industry stakeholders, with Walvis Bay Mayor Johannes Shimbilinga officiating the event and Walvis Bay Rural Constituency Councillor Ruben Shikongo introduced as the tournament patron.

Speaking at the launch, Mayor Johannes Shimbilinga described the tournament as more than just a sporting competition, highlighting its role in strengthening partnerships and promoting healthy lifestyles."This tournament is a platform that brings people together, strengthens relationships, encourages teamwork, and promotes a healthy lifestyle among employees. Sport has a unique ability to unite people, teaching discipline, respect, perseverance, and collaboration—values that are equally important in our workplaces and communities. By bringing companies together in friendly competition, this initiative will foster lasting professional networks."

Tournament Patron Ruben Shikongo emphasized that the fishing industry remains a key pillar of Namibia's economy, noting that the games will celebrate the workforce behind its success."When the fishing industry grows, Namibia grows. These games are about bringing people together, building friendships, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and celebrating the hardworking people of our fishing industry. I encourage everyone to support this initiative and help make the inaugural event in October 2026 a resounding success."

Organising Committee Member Thomas Mununga added that the four-day tournament will bring together employees from across different fishing sectors while placing a strong focus on stress management and mental health."Today marks a historic moment for Walvis Bay, the Erongo Region, and the entire nation. These games are intended to unify the fishing industry and recognize its vital contribution to the national economy and food security, especially given our extensive 1,500-kilometer coastline."

Technical partner Evaristor Gylgrister reinforced the importance of the initiative, noting that physical and mental wellness are key to employee well-being, as healthy employees directly contribute to stronger businesses and improved productivity.

The Namibia Fisheries and Corporate Intra-Tournament Cup will feature eight sporting codes, bringing together employees from Namibia's fishing and corporate industries in Walvis Bay for four days of competition and wellness activities.
