For more than six years, Polish traveller Łukasz Podstada has been walking across countries and continents, driven by a childhood dream of adventure.
The 42-year-old from Cieszyn, Poland, began his journey on 15 July 2020, setting out with the goal of travelling around the world – on foot.
He's currently in Namibia, in the town of Otjiwarongo.
Pushing his thule chariot across the world, Podstada has covered more than 22 thousand kilometres, travelling through more than 30 countries in Europe and Africa.
His journey has taken him through countries including France, Morocco, Mauritania, Guinea and Cameroon.
It has not always been an easy road.
"I found problems. I must stop in Cameroon to get a visa. I lost 7 months in Congo Brazavil. I must wait 3 months, so this is the biggest challenge."
He also keeps his costs low by spending much of his time outdoors and sleeping outside.
"People very often host me in their houses; they give me space for the tent, so everything is good. Yeah, small problems, big hospitality. This is what I want to say: this is Africa."
His interests – hiking, nature, survival, bushcraft and off-grid living – have become part of his everyday life.
Podstada's journey has now brought him to Namibia.
"In Namibia, I'm one month old already. When I cross the border, I stay there for a lot of time because I promise myself in Angola I was doing very fast, so I promise myself I'll stop and just recover a bit. I see the places; it's like in Europe. Yeah, it's like developed everything. Yeah, if you look at this, you will think you are in Italy or Spain. I was walking; I was looking at these mountains. This looks like South Italy."
He said he enjoyed walking past Omuthiya, Oshivelo Tsumeb and other areas.
For Podstada, the journey is not simply about the distance covered.
It is about experiencing different countries, connecting with nature and meeting people along the way.
His ultimate goal is to complete his circum-navigation of the world on foot and eventually return to his hometown of Cieszyn, Poland.
