To mark the Lifelong Learning Month – September, the Oshana Education Directorate launched the Adult Learners' Week, Heritage Week, Readathon Week, and an Inter-Regional Arts and Craft Competition.

The launch of four events underscores the region's commitment to literacy, heritage, creativity, arts and innovation.

Learning does not cease upon leaving school, but it continues in homes, workplaces, communities and through culture, arts and intergenerational knowledge exchange.

The adult learners week started on the 1st of September and lasted until the 8th of September at Oluno – a celebration of the International Literacy Day

Deputy Director, Lifelong Learning, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture Gabriel Mwaninga encouraged Namibians to embrace reading and writing.

“Literacy is not limited to reading and writing; it enables individuals to access information, make informed decisions and actively participate in their communities. Through adult and continuing education, opportunities are created for those who did not complete formal schooling, while also equipping adults with practical skills that enhance livelihoods and quality of life.”

The Heritage Week will be celebrated from the 15th to the 20th of September at Oikango Primary School in Oshana Region.

Readathon Week will be celebrated from the 21st of September to the 25th at Ondelekelama Primary School.

The celebration of the inter-regional arts and crafts competition will start on the 3rd of September.

“Craft and visual arts will complement the musical performances, showcasing traditional and contemporary works that reflect Namibia's cultural identity. This inclusion emphasises that creativity is not limited to sound but extends to the tactile and visual expression that preserves heritage and inspires innovation,” added Mwaninga.
