Namibia is advancing water diversification, purification, aquifer recharge and seawater desalination under its Sixth National Development Plan.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah shared the country’s plans while appealing for urgent investment in Africa’s water infrastructure.

She chaired the International High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa and Global Cooperation discussion in New York, with the participation of AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Senegal’s Foreign Minister Cheikh Niang and Tanzania’s former President Jakaya Kikwete, who is also the Alternate Co-Chair of the Global High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa.

The panel discussed strengthening international partnerships in light of the upcoming 2026 UN Water Conference in the United Arab Emirates.

The conversion of an estimated US$10 billion to US$12 billion investment pipeline into funded, implementable projects was also identified as a key priority.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah called on international partners to further support the Global Investment Platform’s upstream de-risking facilities hosted in Windhoek by the Global Water Partnership Organisation.
