The United Nations Resident Coordinator, Hopolang Phororo, has hailed the launch of Namibia's Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) as a critical milestone in the country's ongoing climate change response. 

Speaking to the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) during the launch event, Phororo commended the government's bold environmental targets and underscored the UN's commitment to supporting Namibia's green transition.

Namibia's NDC 3.0 is more than a climate document; it is a development commitment. Phororo stated that the mitigation and adaptation priorities create space for UN agencies like FAO, UN-Habitat and UNESCO to support implementation, noting that climate change cuts across sectors and affects societal resilience and development.

She also highlighted the relevance of these actions in the context of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

"Climate action is particularly important as we see what is happening with the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, where our Secretary General, in this last appearance of his, clearly talked about the needs of climate action and the urgency behind it as well, because the climate action affects all facets of society. It's not just climate action, but it affects the water, it affects the resilience, and it affects everything."

Phororo commended the Government of Namibia and its partners for developing NDC 3.0 and called for continued cooperation to execute the plan.
