The new leadership of the Otjinene Farmers Association plans to open a local office, update its constitution, and collaborate with traditional leaders to improve communication with farmers.

Speaking at Otjinoko village in the Otjinene constituency, the chairperson of the Otjinene farmers association, Utarera Kavaka, pointed out that the association is faced with a daunting task at hand of renovating the auction kraals and setting up an office to ensure that all operations are coordinated properly for the success of the entity. 

The Otjinene Farmers Association will prioritise hosting more information sessions to connect local farmers with agricultural experts and share modern farming techniques.

"Our very first priority area is that we want to fix the constitution of the association. As we went through the constitution of ORFU and NNFU, we want to merge these two, and then we can have our guiding document, which will be a permanent one, as the existing one is very outdated. From there, we shall bring the traditional leaders and farmers together so that we can amend this constitution for years to come."

The Chairperson added that the association plans to invest more in the area of education and health to better the living standard of its farming communities. 

Kavaka added that an annual operational report will be expected to account for the association's 500 registered members, while also urging local farmers to strictly observe the country's foot-and-mouth disease protocols.
