Former President Nangolo Mbumba has called for the consolidation of Swapo Party unity and the protection of Namibia's national sovereignty as the country pursues economic emancipation.

Mbumba was delivering a public lecture at the Swapo Party headquarters in Windhoek on the theme "The Importance of Consolidating Party Unity and Safeguarding National Sovereignty in Pursuit of Economic Emancipation".

Introducing the lecture, Mbumba said the discussion comes at a time when Namibia, the African continent and the wider world are navigating an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.

He said in such circumstances, party unity should be viewed as a strategy, while national sovereignty should be safeguarded through concrete action.

The former head of state further described economic emancipation as unfinished work, stressing the need for continued efforts towards achieving it.

He noted that the Swapo Party school remains focused on developing skills and knowledge within the party and contributing to greater cohesion among its members, leadership and structures.

Mbumba, who also served as Swapo Party's Secretary General, outlined three strategic imperatives, noting that party unity must remain supreme, not as sentiment but as strategy, and that national sovereignty must be safeguarded, not as a slogan but as substance.

The public lecture formed part of the Swapo Party School's tradition of engaging members and students on political, social and socio-economic issues.
