Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has announced that the Public Service Medical Aid Scheme governing committee is expected to review concerns over medical aid benefits, following recommendations aimed at reducing costs and improving relief for public servants and their dependents.

Swapo Party MP Willem Aumtenya said many public servants with chronic conditions have already exhausted their benefits, while some essential medicines are not covered and can be costly.

The committee that was launched this year is made up of various stakeholders.

Some of the interventions include the removal of copayments, which, as per the recommendations of the study conducted, was anticipated to bring relief to many in the public service as well as their dependence.

The premier said the study has yielded positive results.

“So we have therefore decided that very soon the PSEMAS governing committee will meet and will give them specific direction in terms of part of what the honourable member is raising as well as what has been raised here before and so too what a number of public servants, rightly so, are experiencing when they go to their various medical doctors and so forth.”
