The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) and the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) have formalised a partnership to strengthen the administration and adjudication of the Namibia Annual Sport Awards.
The agreement is aimed at improving the credibility, transparency, and technical integrity of the awards, particularly in recognising sporting achievements at the national and international levels.
The partnership brings both institutions together to enhance how the nation celebrates sports excellence, with the NNOC taking on a direct role in the awards process.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, NSC Chief Administrator Dr Freddy Mwiya stated that the cooperative agreement represents a deliberate and strategic step toward strengthening the prestige, transparency, and overall credibility of the national sports recognition framework.
Under the terms of the agreement, the NNOC will nominate a representative to the adjudication committee and second staff members to the local organising committee. The Olympic body will also provide technical expertise in verifying international participation records and assist in refining the scoring matrix.
This collaboration ensures that athlete achievements at the Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth, and other major multi-sport events are evaluated and recognised accurately.
Additionally, the agreement establishes regular review meetings, coordinated communication strategies, and a formal mechanism for resolving disputes between the two bodies. Both organisations emphasised that the joint framework reinforces good governance and guarantees a fair awards process.
The partnership is set to extend beyond the 2026 awards cycle, creating a long-term foundation for collaboration in honoring Namibia's athletes, coaches, and sports administrators.
