Residents of Chetto in Kongola Constituency have appealed to the NBC to extend radio coverage to their area, saying limited access to news and information is leaving them disconnected from national and international developments.
Radio reception remains a major challenge, despite the installation of an MTC tower in the area.
While some households can access television through DStv, residents say only a few can afford the service, leaving many without reliable access to current affairs.
Induna of Chetto, Sonner Geria explained.
“We believe improved radio coverage would help bridge the information gap while providing educational opportunities and allowing residents to follow developments across the country and beyond.”
The community also called for the establishment of a Khwedam community radio station in Chetto.
The project dates back to 2019, when it was registered with the Business and Intellectual Property Authority (BIPA).
This lengthy approval process for government-supported projects and the pending broadcasting license the community added, remain among the challenges holding back progress.
