The Police in the Omusati Region have celebrated Heritage Day at Outapi, highlighting the importance of cultural diversity, unity, and preserving traditions for future generations.
Held under the theme "Celebrating Our Culture and Diversity, Which Comes With Unique Cultures," the event brought together police officers from across the region, traditional leaders, and community members to celebrate Namibia's diverse cultural heritage.
Omusati Police Commander Ismael Basson said cultural differences should not be allowed to divide communities.
“Through the displays at today’s event, we are demonstrating unity in diversity and showing that Namibians can live together harmoniously despite their differences.”
Commissioner Basson noted that although he is not originally from the region, he has never heard any police officer complain about being discriminated against because of their culture.
He stated that beyond fighting crime, the police also have a role to play in educating and engaging the public, as demonstrated during the event.
Ombalantu Traditional Authority Chief Oswin Mukulu, in a speech delivered on his behalf, emphasised the importance of passing cultural values on to younger generations to preserve Namibia's heritage.
Mukulu added that collaboration is essential to educating young people and reviving cultural practices to ensure Namibia's traditions are preserved and passed on to future generations.
