The Zambezi Region has joined the nation in mourning the passing of Namibia's second former First Lady, Penehupifo Pohamba, with the regional governor describing her as one who served others with an uncompromising passion.
In her message of condolence, Zambezi governor Dorothy Kabula paid tribute to Pohamba for her dedication to supporting vulnerable communities, with the establishment of the organisation for the Empowerment of Widows, Widowers and Orphans of HIV/AIDS in Namibia. (OEWONA).
"She was the founder and the patron of OEWONA, which opened its doors in Katima Mulilo in 2010, and a total number of 386 widows and 260 orphans were registered in the Zambezi region. Currently, OEWONA has 120 widows and 120 orphans registered and still benefiting from the second former First Lady's initiative."
Kabula said Pohamba's contribution to society had left a lasting legacy that would be remembered for generations to come.
"Madam Penehupifo was a beacon of kindness, whose impact reached all corners of the Namibian nation. She will forever be remembered for her grace, compassion and tireless dedication that reached Namibians far beyond her official duties."
