President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has returned from Russia, where she participated in the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow.
She described the summit as fruitful.
Speaking upon her arrival at Andimba Toivo ya Toivo airport in Ondangwa this afternoon, Nandi-Ndaitwah says Namibia engaged Russia on key areas of economic cooperation.
"The summit was very successful. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation, particularly in economic areas such as trade and investment. Both African nations and Russia agreed on the need to establish genuine partnerships that would benefit both sides. Given that Russia is more advanced than Africa, they highlighted areas for collaboration, especially in agriculture, food security, and fertilizer production."
Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah explained that her call was that the Russians should not only supply various goods to the African continent but also bring technology as well.
She said Namibia has finalised a revenue collection agreement in Moscow but admits still more needs to be done in various sectors.
"We have a few agreements that are nearly finalized; however, the existing one with the Namibia Revenue Agency is not sufficient. We need to ensure that two or three additional agreements are signed within this year."
Held under the theme "For peace, security, and development," the summit brought together 22 heads of state and representatives from 48 African countries to deepen cooperation with Russia.
