The Chairperson of the SADC Panel of Elders, Jakaya Kikwete, will be leading missions to member states in a bid to find lasting solutions to conflicts in the region.

In New York, former Tanzanian President Kikwete met with President Hage Geingob, who is also the Chair of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defense, and Security.

The SADC countries to be visited are Lesotho, Eswatini, and Mozambique.

The 42nd Ordinary SADC Summit, held in DRC's capital Kinshasa in August, tasked the Panel of Elders and the Mediation Reference Group to ensure the continuity and oversight of the implementation of reforms in the Kingdom of Lesotho.

South Africa had been leading the regional bloc's mediation efforts in the mountainous kingdom amid fears that a political crisis could increase ahead of the October 7th general election.
