Katima Mulilo Town Council without management committee chairperson

The election of a chairperson of the management committee for Katima Mulilo Town Council was deadlocked, with members unable to choose a nominee to occupy the seat.

The three nominated members for the position were Charles Musialike from the Independent Patriots for Change, Namangolwa Mapenzi, and Chizabulyo Simanga, both from the Swapo Party.

Katima's newly elected mayor, John Ntemwa, called for the postponement of the election of a chairperson to allow for further consultations after Musialike walked out of the proceedings.

Modernisation of national railways a need

The Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Economics and Public Administration, Natangwe Ithete, has emphasised the necessity of revising and modernising the national railway system in a way that stimulates growth and development.

Ithete said this during a visit by the members of the standing committee to ||Kharas Governor Aletha Frederick.

The standing committee is currently conducting an oversight visit to assess the management of railway services, infrastructure, and facilities in the southern region.

|Khomas Regional Council re-elects John Moonde as Chairperson

The |Khomas Regional Council has re-elected John Moonde as its chairperson.

Three other members of the Management Committee who were re-elected are Councillor Samuel Angolo of Khomasdal Constituency, Nestor Kalola, the Councillor of Samora Machel Constituency, and Stephanus Ndengu, the Councillor of Moses Garoeb Constituency.

Election of Ohangwena Regional Council Management Committee's chairperson a tie

The election of the chairperson of the Ohangwena Regional Council Management Committee has ended in a tie.

Outgoing council chairperson and councillor for Omulonga Constituency, Erickson Ndawanifa, and Festus Ikanda, councillor for Omundaungilo Constituency, were nominated, leaving the 12-member council divided into half.

The election reached a tie as both candidates scored six votes each after members cast their votes through the ballots before Magistrate Adrian Sangunji of the Eenhana Magistrate's Court.

Marlayn Mbakera re-elected as Chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council

Otjiwarongo Constituency Councillor Marlayn Mbakera has been re-elected as Chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council.

Mbakera, who served as Chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Management Committee for the past two and a half years, was the sole candidate for the position during the election process.

On the list of the Otjozondjupa Council's goals, Mbakera says it is to upgrade settlements to the status of a local authority, maximize land and housing delivery, and seek solutions for farmers in the corridors.

Finance Minister requests security for Namcor Board chairperson Jennifer Comalie

The Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Iipumbu Shiimi has requested the Nampol Inspector-General, Joseph Shikongo to conduct a threat assessment on Namcor Board chairperson, Jennifer Comalie and provide necessary security to her.

Shiimi, in a letter to Lt. Gen. Shikongo, said that Comalie had informed him and Mines and Energy Minister Tom Alweendo that she was worried about her safety and that of her daughter, during a meeting last week.

Otjozondjupa Regional Council to improve living conditions at Kalkfeld

Otjozondjupa Regional Council Chairperson, Marlyn Mbakera, says they are hard at work to improve living conditions at Kalkfeld Settlement and move it towards Village Council status.
  
Council is busy introducing various developmental projects related to housing, water, and sewer connections, as well as empowering self-employed individuals.

Mbakera says the council has since 2021 allocated 120 plots, in two phases, at Dinosdal Settlement for residential housing units and business plots.

503 plots are on a waiting list for formalization.

The Forum's Chairperson Katrina Elizabeth |Goagoses made the call on the sidelines of the annual gathering of school principals in the ||Kharas Region at Karasburg.  

|Goagoses says the forum's main focus is to step up parent involvement in schools and be part of the monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learning.  

AU Commission Chairperson urges Africa to curb foreign aid and stimulate peace

The Chairperson of the African Union says Africa must create wealth amongst its people as a tool to curb foreign aid and stimulate peace.

Moussa Faki Mahamat says the need to embrace African ideas on issues facing the continent is also critical to attaining transformation across all spheres of life.

Mahamat also raised concern about the unconstitutional seizure of political power in Africa, saying although success has been achieved in restoring peace across Africa, concerns still exist.

Uerikua meets striking Cheetah Cement workers

Otjozondjupa Governor, James Uerikua, accompanied by regional council chairperson, Marlayn Mbakera, held a meeting with the striking workers of the Cheetah Cement factory at Otjiwarongo. 

Uerikua told the workers who have been on strike since July this year that their strike has taken so long, therefore, urgent action is needed to end it. 

Nearly 200 workers at Cheetah Cement have been on strike since their wage negotiations reached a deadlock in July, which forced the Office of the Labour Commissioner to rule in favour of industrial action.
