The late veteran broadcaster Johanna Muatara was buried at the Pioneerspark.

Muatara's journalism career spanned from the time of SWABC, where she worked, soon after completing secondary school.

She worked there until leaving the country in 1980 to go into exile, joining the Swapo team in Zambia on the radio programme, Voice of Namibia.

She also worked for the national broadcasters of Zambia and Zimbabwe.

In 1989, she returned to Namibia as a journalist and was among the first delegation to Namibia for the national election campaign.

In 1990, she rejoined her former employer, now the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation. While at the national broadcaster, Muatara was actively involved in community activities, further expanding this into church work.

Muatara was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, and died about six years later, at the age of 73.

She is survived by seven children, 30 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and 10 siblings.
