Renowned banker Tomas Iindji buried

Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has described the late renowned banker and former NCCI northern branch chairman Tomas Iindji as a go-getter who set high standards in the banking industry and worked for the upliftment of local businesses. 

Mourners, including Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, cabinet ministers, regional governors, politicians, businessmen and women, traditional and church leaders, the banking fraternity, family, and friends, all gathered at Ombuga ya Munyoko Village in the Oshana Region to pay their final respects.

Liberation icon Ida Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros buried

Speaking at the state funeral of the liberation icon Ida Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros today, President Nangolo Mbumba has hailed the late struggle stalwart as an unyielding figure who dedicated her life to the liberation and freedom of her country.

Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros died on April 3 at the age of 79.

Mourners from all walks of life paid their last respects at Farm Snip River Cemetery, where Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros was buried next to her late husband, Werner !Ha-Eirob.

UK murder victim Claudia Kambanza buried

Claudia Kambanza, who was allegedly stabbed to death by her partner in the United Kingdom, was buried at the Pionerspark Cemetery in Windhoek today. 

22-year-old Kambanza was a resident of the city of Hull in the UK and died on January 26 of this year. 

She was allegedly murdered by her partner, 28-year-old Mateus Johannes, who has since been in custody.

Johannes is charged with murder and possession of a sharp object in public. 

African leaders to attend President Geingob's funeral this weekend

This weekend in Windhoek, numerous heads of state and government will come together to attend the funeral service of the late Namibian President Hage Geingob. 

In tribute to President Geingob, former Mozambique President Joaquim Chissano has highlighted the pivotal role Dr. Geingob played in preparing the South West Africa People's Organisation, (SWAPO), for governance. 

Late President Geingob's remains to remain in Windhoek for farewell ceremonies

The Minister of Information and Technology, Emma Theofelus, says the remains of the late President Hage Geingob may not be taken to the regions before the burial due to logistical constraints.

"The committee, after consultation with important stakeholders, decided that the body would not travel and that the memorial service would proceed as planned." 

Theofelus, however, assures the public that efforts are being made to allow citizens from various regions to participate in the farewell ceremonies in Windhoek.

Government announces change in dates for memorial and funeral services for late President Geingob

The Government has announced a change in the dates for the memorial and funeral services for the late President Hage Geingob.

Initially, it was announced that Friday, February 23, and Saturday, February 24, would be the dates for the final memorial and state funeral service, respectively. However, Minister of Information and Communication Technology Emma Theofelus has announced that the memorial service will now be held on Saturday, the 24th, while the state funeral will be held on Sunday, the 25th of February.

Late Dr Rihupisa Kandando buried

The former Swanu President and veteran politician, Dr. Rihupisa Kandando, was buried at Omitivine village in Aminuis constituency over the weekend.

Dr. Kandando died on the 23rd of December, aged 60. He was accorded an official
funeral by President Hage Godfried Geingob.

Various speakers described the late Kandando as an academic of note, who they said played a pivotal role as a lecturer and head of the pathology department at the University of Namibia.

Khwe community in Bwabwata National bemoans tedious burial process

Marginalised communities living in Bwabwata National Park say they are finding it difficult to bury their dead, largely due to bureaucratic processes.
   
Even though they receive burial service assistance from the government, they say the requirement process involves a number of resources they do not have.

The Khwe community resides in Bwabwata National Park, and many are unemployed, surviving on government social programmes.

When a community member dies, the government has a burial service assistance programme in place, allowing for a dignified burial.

Uazuva Kaumbi Buried at Otjiwapeke

Former Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) Board Chairperson Uazuva Kaumbi was buried on Saturday at his home village, Otjiwapeke, in the Daures Constituency.

Survived by his wife and six children, Kaumbi wore many hats owing to his vast knowledge and expertise.

He ensured that the knowledge he gained was passed on to the next generation by moderating at the Namibia Business School and lecturing at the University of Science and Technology.

Mourners from different walks of life all spoke of how much they had learned from him.

Ambassador Hishongwa buried

Namibians paid their last respects as they bid farewell to the late Ambassador Hadino Hishongwa, who was buried this morning at Eenhana Memorial Shrine in the Ohangwena Region.

Speaker after speaker described the diplomat Hishongwa as one who served with commitment to the advancement of Namibia.

Prior to the funeral service, mourners first gathered for the state memorial at the late Hishongwa's homestead at Onekwaya West in the Ohangwena Region.

Speakers praised Hishongwa's good deeds and reminisced about his journey pre- and post-independence.
