Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer Conrad Lutombi is concerned about uncleanliness along the Trans-Zambezi Highway.

Lutombi expressed this during a stakeholders' cleanup campaign along the Trans-Zambezi Highway as part of the community sensitisation on the sustainable benefits of clean roads and environmental care.

He said that with Namibia being one of the most preferred tourist destinations, it's just fair that the national roads are clean. "We are approaching the festive season now when we are expecting a number of tourists to visit our country and most of the tourists travel on the road, so if our roads are dirty in terms of the road reserve, it creates a bad image of the country," he added.

Lutombi said illegal dumping of waste remains a problem in all towns and thus discourages residents and businesses from dumping refuse in open spaces.

Local authorities are urged to look into sustainable waste management solutions to help curb the problem.

The Mayor of Katima Mulilo, Lister Shamalaza, also joined the campaign.

The two-month-long cleanup campaign will be conducted throughout the country.
