Young people in Swakopmund say Namibians can benefit a lot from learning about each other's cultures and the history of how people used to sustain themselves in the olden days.

The Swakopmund Municipality hosted the Matutura Cultural Festival, with an emphasis on the importance of cultural diversity, be it at workplaces or educational institutions.

The festival organiser, Ester Kanandjembo, stressed the importance of intangible cultural heritage, which is about a wealth of knowledge and skills that are passed on from one generation to the next.

Kanandjembo says cultural awareness helps one to appreciate and respect other people's cultures and traditions, and this can only be done through documentation.

Kanandjembo urged young people to learn more about their roots through these platforms.
