Candidates contesting three of the top positions in the Swapo Party made presentations to delegates at Rundu in the Kavango East Region.

Regional Coordinator Ottilie Shinduvi says the intra-party campaign went according to the guidelines as agreed by the Central Committee.

The media was only allowed to have a glimpse of the candidates at a highly guarded meeting.

A large number of delegates from the Kavango East as well as those who travelled from other regions turned up to listen to the contestants.

The incumbent Vice-President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwa, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongwelwa-Amadhila and Environment, Forestry and Tourism Minister Pohamba Shifeta were scheduled to take the stand one after another, respectively.

Swapo Party Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa is up against Oshikoto Regional Coordinator Armas Amukwiyu for the party's top administrative position.

Kavango West Regional Coordinator David Hamutenya is vying for the position of Deputy Secretary against Evelyn Nanuses-Taeyele, Uahekua Herunga, and Lucia Witbooi, who was not present at Rundu.

The Kavango East has 34 delegates headed to the highly anticipated Extra-Ordinary Elective Congress next month.

Candidates aspiring to be elected into the Swapo Party's central committee were also presented.

The campaign train heads to the Kavango West on Saturday.
