An Angolan national made a brief appearance in the Mukwe Periodical Court on a charge of attempted murder and kidnapping.

Vida Kandjimi is also facing a charge of assault and contravention of the Immigration Act.

It is alleged that Kandjimi tied up another Angolan national, assaulted him, and threatened to kill him in the process.

The incident took place at the Rudhiva village along the Kavango River in the Shadikongoro area of the Mukwe constituency.

The victim, identified as Albertha Malanda, 18, is said to have screamed for help after realizing that his friend-turned-assailant was serious in his actions.

Some community members rushed to the scene, rescued Malanda, and tied down the suspect while they waited for the police.

The two Angolans are said to have crossed the border illegally into Namibia to sell reeds, but on their way back to Angola they had a disagreement.

Kandjimi was remanded in custody for further police investigations and his case was postponed to January 21st, of next year.
