More than 300 girls in the Erongo Region benefited from the United Nations Population Fund's dignity packs.

The dignity packs contain basic essential hygiene items such as baby nappies, washing powder, bathing soap, face clothes, underwear, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.

They were distributed in Usakos, Swakop, Omaruru, and Karibib.

Through the Leaving No One Behind Project, the UNFPA, with financial assistance from the Japanese government, made this donation.

"With the girls, we feel that it is important that the girl should start her life in a dignified way as an open book in which she writes her own story. As she moves through her life chapter, she needs to be natural, she needs to be encouraged and supported so that she has a greater chance of recognising and realising her potential and opportunity," said Loide Amkongo, Officer in Charge at the UNFPA.

Additionally, the organization is distributing dignity kits to 375 pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and teenagers.

To make sure that the most in need received these supplies, the beneficiaries were chosen after consultation with the ministries of health and education.

Among the beneficiaries were fifty schoolgirls from Hanganeni Primary School.

"Some of the challenges are that some of our parents don't even have jobs, but we have the government behind our backs, but as us young women, we have a lot of challenges in our lives."

Amkongo emphasized the need to engage men and boys as well.

"We cannot afford to create an imbalance between men and women, or boys and girls. We are seeing how men and young boys are not able to cope with the demands of this world and resort to suicide."
