President Hage Geingob has commended the work of the Security Association of Namibia for maintaining law and order.

The association marked its 30th anniversary today.

Members of the Security Association marched through the streets of Windhoek in celebration of the anniversary.

In a speech read on his behalf, President Hage Geingob commended the work of security companies in protecting properties as well as in maintaining law and order.

Dr Geingob's speech was read on his behalf by the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security, Dr Albert Kawana.

"I am however aware that as we strive for excellence in service delivery, our country is negatively affected by the economic difficulties that are affecting the world today, Hence, limited resources both in the public and private sectors are affecting service delivery to the public. Despite these challenges, we must rededicate our services to optimally utilize the available resources to deliver efficient services to our people."

The head of state also raised concern about the deteriorating levels of discipline among some security officers who engage in criminal activities.

"It is very disappointing to learn that some members are resorting to criminal activities, particularly stealing or aiding criminals to steal the properties of clients. I, therefore, expect the association to put measures in place in order to address this unfortunate situation. We should strive to earn the confidence and trust of our clients and our nation by rendering quality service. In the same vein, I appeal to the employers to improve the terms and conditions of their employees' employment."

President Geingob further called on employers to respect and observe the workers' rights and working conditions, including compensation for service rendered.

He implored managers to continuously train and develop their employees.
