The Mineworkers Union and Cheetah Cement have finally reached a wage agreement after a prolonged strike at the Otjiwarongo plant.

The workers were offered an increase of N$1000 on their basic salary across the board, backdated to January this year.

According to a media release, the housing allowance for the Cheetah Cement workers will also increase to N$1000. Their housing allowance currently stands at 5% of each employee's basic salary.

Additionally, the company is to pay 80% of the main member's medical aid contribution.

A new pension fund will be implemented as of January 2023, of which the employer will contribute 75% and employees 25%.

Back pay is to be settled within 14 days after the final signing of the wage agreement.

The striking workers will return to work on November 9.
