The National Assembly held a remembrance ceremony for the late Ignatius Shixwameni who died of a heart attack at parliament last year November.

The remembrance ceremony was also aimed at creating awareness of prevention measures and how to handle heart attacks.

Members of Parliament, family, and friends gathered at Parliament Gardens to remember the man who was known as a fearless and principled politician who significantly contributed to the liberation of the country.

Moreover, Shixwameni fought and advocated for quality education, freedom, justice, and fairness.

During the ordeal of his death, there was no one skilled to perform CPR, a lifesaving technique useful in emergencies such as a heart attack, hence the need for CPR training at workplaces.

A demonstration from the MVA Fund team on how to perform CPR was also part of the ceremony.

The widow of the late Shixwameni, Louise is in the process of launching a foundation in Ignatius Shixwameni's memory, which aims to create awareness of cardiovascular diseases.

Shixwameni served in different portfolios such as Deputy Minister of Information and Broadcasting, MP, and later the President of All Peoples Party, a position he held until his death.
