An incomplete hall and kitchen at the Ruben Makanga Combined School at Rundu's Sauyemwa Informal Settlement were destroyed by a heavy wind that came with the torrents this week.

According to the school's principal, Maria Kudumo, more than N$150,000 has already been spent on the structure's foundation and roof.

Kudumo says the disaster is a blow to the school as the structure was also used as an examination venue.

"As a matter of urgency, we are requesting any Samaritan or any donor to first remove the damaged structure as it has not been in our budget, so we will need funds to remove it and then to ask for more donations so that we can start all over because Ruben Makanga is a large community and we cannot operate without one."

She says the school was also renting the hall to the community to organize events to fundraise for its completion.

The heavy downpours experienced in the Kavango regions over the past few days affected several villages in the Ndiyona and Divundu constituencies.
