Several people were arrested for illegal border crossing and a number of items were confiscated during a police operation in the Zambezi Region.

Zambezi Regional Commander, Commissioner Andreas Shilelo said a  33-year-old male was charged after he was found trying to cross to Zambia with boxes of undeclared alcohol.

"He was charged on custom act, his vehicle was impounded and he was also fined N$50 000 for using the vehicle to cross the border with goods that are not declared". 

Items that belong to the Roads Construction Company, were among the items retrieved at Macaravani west settlement.

A 45-year-old woman  was arrested after some items were found in her residence.

Three other suspects, Zambian nationals, were also arrested for theft of metal items suspected to be for recycling purposes.

" People are now stealing from each other, whoever is having metal for use in his/her house, but it is of value to recycle people they steal it, we also found metals that are suspected to belong to the government." 

The operation, which initially targeted illegal immigrants, saw 128 Zambian nationals and 16 Angolan nationals arrested and deported so far.

The police also says it will extend the operation during the festive season in order to reduce crimes in the region.
