The Founder of Mental Health Care Namibia, Cathy Kambanda has encouraged men not to bottle up their problems as it factors as one of the leading causes of suicide.

Kambanda addressed men at Tsumeb honoring International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day. International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is a day designated by the United States Congress for those affected by suicide to come together for healing and support.

With men reportedly more successful at carrying out suicides, the founder of Mental Health Care Namibia organized a 10 km morning run in acknowledgment of the problem, before engaging them on the matter of mental health.

"Our aim is to have all of you believe and understand that speaking up really helps, we women need you and you are the most important factor in our lives, the reason why we do this is just to inspire men out there that your emotions and your feelings also matter."

Medical Doctor, Dr. Masimba Dauramanzi explained that suicide is mainly caused by stressful life events that led to depression.

"What are the symptoms and signs of depression, one of the signs is lack of concentration, depressed mood, difficulty in sleeping, loss of appetite, and mood alterations. So I'll like to encourage the man to speak up, and look for someone to speak to seek medical help."

Speaking out about dealing with depression was Nahum Sackeus, a police officer.

"The help of therapy gets me through, at first I never knew what was wrong with me, and I'll engage in destructive behavior, I felt worthless, I felt useless, I thought I had no purpose on earth until one day I decided to seek medical help, that's when I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety."

Mental Health Care Namibia offers a 24 hours helpline, suicide prevention measures, counseling rape victims, and entrepreneurial coaching.
