Western Suburbs Rugby Club has intensified its training sessions this week as the team looks to improve its performance ahead of the upcoming season.

Head coach Jood Opperman said the main objective this year is to be more consistent, improve communication among players, and sharpen the team's technical and defensive play.

Jood Opperman said "Last year was difficult for us as we started well but dropped off in the middle of the season. This year, we are focusing on improving our technical play, communication, and defence."

Club captain Darryl Vries emphasized the importance of early preparation and improved fitness levels within the squad.

"The players came back not fully fit, so it was important to start early in January with hard training so we are ready for the season. We want to do better than last year." Darryl Vries said.

The club has also welcomed new signings, with players eager to contribute to the team's plans this season.

New recruit Nzola-Menza Nkunku said he has settled well into the squad.

"The transition has been good. The players welcomed me well, and there is a strong team spirit at the club. I am happy and want to help the team do well this season." Nzola-Menza Nkunku said.

Western Suburbs finished seventh in last season's standings, winning four and losing four of their eight matches to collect 17 points.

The team will aim to improve its position this season after struggling with consistency in the previous campaign.

The Rugby Premier League season is set to begin on 11 April.
