Stakeholders in road safety have launched the 2022 festive season campaign as the time to take off gets closer.
For the past two years, the months of July, August, October, and December have consistently recorded the highest crashes.
After the global ministerial, a conference on road safety in Stockholm, Sweden, Namibia joined the global community in creating the second chapter of the Decade of action for road safety 2021-2030.
The Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Eliphas !Owos-Oab said more than one million fatalities and 50 million injuries were reported annually in the latest Global Status Report of the World Health Organization.
He also added that Road crashes could not only result in large annual economic losses but also contribute to poverty in many developing countries and the National Road Safety Council is ready for the festive season.
"We are prepared and on the first of December, we are going to set up Divundu emergency response base. First responder awareness will be conducted along the B1 and B2 roads in order to encourage community participation in road safety."
The public is requested to contribute in reducing road fatalities by 50 percent by the year 2030 through stakeholder engagement.
|Khomas is one of the regions with the highest number of road crashes, fatalities, and injuries.
" The campaign intends to build the stakeholders in the subsitors to support the campaign from different departments both in the public sector, private enterprises, and as well as a civil society including the first base organization."
