Light to moderate rains recorded over the weekend brought relief from the heat wave in some parts of the country. 

Over the past week, temperatures have hovered between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius in places such as Keetmanshoop, which received some light showers on Friday and Saturday. 

Figures revealed on the Namibia Meteorological Services website show that the highest rainfall of 19.2 millimetres measured today was recorded in Windhoek.

Hundreds of learners without school placement

The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture is facing an uphill battle for the placement of Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners.

The nbc News sat down with the Executive Director in the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, for an update on the 2024 placements for Grades 1 and 8.

Otjozondjupa, |Khomas and Erongo regions are at the top of the list, grappling with placement challenges.

In the |Khomas Region, 389 Grade 1 learners and 600 Grade 8 learners are still waiting for placement.

|Khomanin clan fights to preserve their heritage

The ǂNūkhoe, in their relentless pursuit to preserve their cultural heritage, unveiled the long-awaited grave of Ouma Amalia |Hones. 

The gravesite signifies the historical existence of the |Khomanin clan of the ǂNūkhoe people.

The gravesite, located east of Havana, was found in 2018, and subsequently, the chief of the |Khomanin clan and the |Honen family members were notified.

Ouma Amalia |Hones was born in 1891 and was buried in 1963.

|Hones' grave signifies the existence of |Khomanin people in the modern-day Windhoek area, originally known as |Khomas.

|Khomanin Traditional Authority demands to meet CoW's leadership

The |Khomanin Traditional Authority stormed the City of Windhoek Council Chambers on Thursday afternoon, demanding to meet the city's political and administrative leadership.

The delegation, headed by the |Khomanin Gaos, Juliane Gawa!Nas, made record gains when they entered the council chambers at will.

There was no one in the chambers at the time, but it did not matter because they had all the time in the world to drive their message home.

UNAM rubbished allegations that students at the School of Medicine were admitted along tribal lines

The University of Namibia has dismissed allegations that students at the School of Medicine were admitted along tribal lines.

Though not verified by the institution, UNAM says only 41 of the 70 successful applicants indicated on their application forms that they were Oshiwambo-speaking.

It is a sensitive matter to talk about, but tribal allegations cloud the institution's School of Medicine and School of Surgery programs after the vast majority of those on the acceptance list at the school carry Aawambo names.

Project Never Walk Alone reports donating pairs of shoes to children in five

Project Never walk alone has so far donated over 5-thousand new pairs of shoes to children in five regions.

|Khomas recently became the sixth and latest beneficiary.

The project donated 400 brand-new pairs of shoes to the Groot Aub Primary School.

The donation was made possible by the  Capricorn Foundation.

At the event, learners, among others received a pair of school shoes, socks, and basic toiletries.

Stakeholders in road safety have launched the 2022 festive season campaign as the time to take off gets closer.

For the past two years, the months of July, August, October, and December have consistently recorded the highest crashes.   
        
After the global ministerial, a conference on road safety in Stockholm, Sweden, Namibia joined the global community in creating the second chapter of the Decade of action for road safety 2021-2030.
