A 23-year-old Walvis Bay woman who was electrocuted at work says her contract was allegedly terminated while she was admitted to the intensive care unit.

The now disabled Theresia Jeremia was once a healthy young woman before she survived an electric shock incident in her line of duty.

This situation has left Jeremia in the full-time care of family and friends.

Jeremia moved from the rural area years ago to look for greener pastures in the harbor town.

She was then employed by Spar as a chef on a contract until the incident around June last year.

Jeremia says that she remembers trying to mop up water from the floor after one of her colleagues spilled it there.

She explained that she felt an unusual sensation through her right arm and was then thrown to the floor, where she lay helpless, struggling to breathe.

Jeremia returned to work after weeks in the hospital, but she couldn't finish her shift without fainting several times.

She takes about 15 pills to ease the pain; some nights become unbearable as the pain worsens each day, with her right arm constantly shaking.

Jeremia says that the company did little to help her when she was declared unfit to work as her arm is constantly in a sling.

The company's spokesman, August |Awaseb expressed grave concern at Jeremiah's situation.

He said the company wants her to undergo a physical checkup with a doctor of their choosing to confirm whether or not her condition was caused by the shock.
