The organization, Charity Work Havana, has taken it upon itself to care for and seek assistance for vulnerable women and children, including pregnant women.

Owned by a young and passionate woman, Penomwene Nekwaya, the organization, among others, secures lunch for about 150 children every Saturday while also caring for vulnerable children and pregnant women.

It breaks her heart, she says, when the children show up for a meal, even when she has not managed to obtain enough food.

"I started doing charity work in 2020 by doing very little things like taking pregnant women and women with small babies in to take care of them and get donations for them, and probably just cooking for five kids in the street."

Nekwaya has made a significant difference in the lives of people like 17-year-old Laimi Shipata, who is malnourished and diabetic and was recently discharged from the hospital, as well as many others at the Havana New informal location.

She has provided many here with food, blankets, and clothing.
