The relocation of Grade 10 and 11 learners from Caprivi Secondary  School is delaying teaching at Mavuluma Secondary School in the Zambezi Region.

There were 998 learners at Mavuluma Secondary school.

However, the number now has increased to 1 239, after more than 200 learners who failed Grades 10 and 11 last year from the Caprivi Secondary School were accommodated at the school.

This has placed a challenge at Mavuluma in terms of space, teachers and furniture.

Though the Directorate has secured tents from the Regional Council to be used as classrooms, the site is swampy and tents could not be erected.:

Currently, the school has 33 teachers, but with the increase in the number of learners, the school will need about 40 teachers or more.

The Mavuluma Secondary School Principal, Tasken Bekela says the chairs and tables received last week are also not enough for all learners but he is hopeful that the Directorate will soon solve the problem.

The Mavuluma principal has appealed to the corporate sector, businesses and other institutions to lend a helping hand and not only leave everything in the hands of the government.

Approached for comment the Education Inspector for Katima Circuit, Dile Limbo, said the Directorate of Education, Arts and Culture in the region is working hard to bring the situation at Mavuluma under control.
