A teaching and learning initiative aimed at bridging the subject comprehension gap between learners in public schools and their counterparts in private schools was launched in Swakopmund.

This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Directorate of Education, Arts, and Culture and the Red Ribbon Bright Futures Project, a social engagement endeavour.

As part of the project, learners from under-resourced public schools will have the chance to engage with their counterparts at private schools.

Shortage of teaching, learning resources hamper education in Kavango East

The Deputy Minister of Education, Arts, and Culture, Faustina Caley, has highlighted the shortage of teaching and learning resources, along with insufficient support, as crucial factors requiring immediate intervention in the Kavango East Region.

Caley made these remarks during a consultative engagement meeting held in Rundu with the Education Sector Leadership and other relevant stakeholders.

Relocation of Grade 10, 11 learners from Caprivi Secondary delays teaching at Mavuluma Secondary

The relocation of Grade 10 and 11 learners from Caprivi Secondary  School is delaying teaching at Mavuluma Secondary School in the Zambezi Region.

There were 998 learners at Mavuluma Secondary school.

However, the number now has increased to 1 239, after more than 200 learners who failed Grades 10 and 11 last year from the Caprivi Secondary School were accommodated at the school.

This has placed a challenge at Mavuluma in terms of space, teachers and furniture.

Parents' failure to register children delays teaching in Zambezi

Teaching in the Zambezi Region is always delayed for days during the first weeks of schools re-opening because of parents failing to register their children from May to September each year. 

Another challenge, according to the Director of Education Joseph Kawana, is the accommodation of failures of 2022 Grade 10 and 11 at secondary schools in the town of Katima Mulilo.
