All vacant positions at Daweb Senior Secondary school at Maltahohe in the Hardap Region have now been filled.

The school has not had teachers for Mathematics Grade 9 and Physical Science Grade 8 for the year 2022.

Teachers still remain reluctant to apply for teaching posts at rural schools.

This, according to Principal Hilary Cloete makes the learning environment difficult. She, however, is happy that all positions at the school have now been filled.

"I can confirm that we really had a lot of interviews 4-5 interviews in order to get a teacher for Mathematics and Physical Science, every time when the recommended candidates were called, they decline the post and then the process has to start all over, but luckily this year I can confirm that the Daweb Senior Secondary School can start with full establishments."

The village of Maltahohe was established in 1899 and currently has a population of just under 7 000 inhabitants.

Many years ago the economy in the village was mainly focused on Karakul Sheep Farming which has since been declining.

Unemployment in the village is also high, making room for young people to indulge in substance abuse.
