National Disability Council condemns senseless acts towards people with disabilities

The Chairperson of the National Disability Council of Namibia, Charlie Matengu, says senseless acts towards people with disabilities must be condemned, and Namibians should work towards creating a more compassionate and understanding community.

Matengu made the remarks following the killing of a man with disabilities after an alleged assault by two farmers.

30-year-old Benedict Swartbooi was killed on March 14 in the Maltahohe district.

Rural Revive Project in Maltahohe begins

The Rural Revive Project, spearheaded by the Wolvedans Foundation, which aims to bring back economic activities to Maltahohe in the Hardap Region, has begun to take shape.

Wolvedans Foundation Founder and Chairman Stephen Bruckner presented the project during an engagement with players in the tourism industry in Namib Naukluft Park.

The Rural Revive Project strives to create a diversified local economy for the benefit of Maltahohe residents and communities beyond the Namib Desert.

All vacant positions at Daweb Secondary Maltahohe now been filled

All vacant positions at Daweb Senior Secondary school at Maltahohe in the Hardap Region have now been filled.

The school has not had teachers for Mathematics Grade 9 and Physical Science Grade 8 for the year 2022. 

Teachers still remain reluctant to apply for teaching posts at rural schools.

This, according to Principal Hilary Cloete makes the learning environment difficult. She, however, is happy that all positions at the school have now been filled. 

Provision of potable water and electricity remains a challenge in Maltahohe and Aranos

The provision of potable water and electricity remains a challenge in Maltahohe and Aranos.

Residents in those areas live in corrugated shelters and share one public- tap.

The residents claimed that one water tap is no more enough as the population has increased in those areas and they have to queue for hours to fetch water.

Some residents including the elderly have to walk a long distance to fetch water from the nearest water point.
