De Sousa case not yet heard

The feud between Athletics Namibia and the mother of aspiring sprinter Sade de Sousa is yet to be settled. The issue currently affecting Athletics Namibia was caused by allegations young athlete Sade de Sousa made about the organisation to her mother. De Sousa allegedly told her mother that she was ill-treated by Athletics official Leonie van Rensburg, who served as the team manager to the IAAF Youth championships in Nairobi, Kenya last month. De Sousa was apparently left to her own devices to walk alone to the games and back to the athletes Village in Nairobi, with van Rensburg ignoring her because her attention was allegedly focused on the boys in the team only. This state of affairs resulted in de Sousa arriving late at the Games Village with the kitchen already closed. She therefore had to go to bed on an empty stomach, something that irked her mother, Brenda Bezuidenhout who accompanied her to the games. Bezuidenhout issued an official complaint to Athletics Namibia last month, expressing her grievance against the team manager Leoni van Rensburg for allegedly unfairly treating her daughter. When NBC Sport inquired whether she has received any feedback from Athletics Namibia after her complaint, a visibly angry Bezuidenhoudt said she is yet to be contacted by the athletics board. She explained that she would not leave any stone unturned and if she does not receive a satisfactory answer from Athletics Namibia. Contacted for comment, Athletics Namibia Secretary General Immanuel Hamutenya said the board was initially to meet last week on the matter, but that the gathering did not take place as some members of the board were in London for the IAAF World championships. He however said the meeting would be rescheduled. There have been rumours that this is not the only complaint laid against athletics executive member van Rensburg.
