The City of Windhoek embarked on a mass naming and renaming of 17 streets in honour of those who contributed to the liberation struggle and community upliftment in a ceremony held in Windhoek on Friday.

It was a colourful and joyful event filled with song and chanting of excitement from family members, friends, representatives, and local residents as they shared memories and historic events related to the contributions of their loved ones, honoured by the City of Windhoek.

The mass renaming and naming of the 17 streets was a tribute to these heroes and ensured that their legacy would remain for generations to come.

Some of the heroes and heroines are unfortunately no more, while others are still alive to witness this gesture of honour themselves.

The event was officiated by the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni.

The streets renamed and named are the Auasblick, Academia, Katutura, Rocky Crest, Pionerspark, Goreangab Olympia, and Elisenheim Lifestyle Village.
