Windhoek-A new gym - known as Genesis Fitness - was opened over the weekend in Windhoek's Katutura area. Genesis, just like its biblical origin, marks only the beginning for the fitness arena. The gym will be run under the African Wealth Group, which also has a number of pharmacies and medical practices under its umbrella. Thus, Dr. Taka Chinyoka, who is the director of Genesis Fitness Club believes, it will be crucial for medical personnel to play an important role at the gym. “A number of people in the Katutura community suffer from chronic diseases. As much as the doctor will prescribe medication and so forth, they will always suggest that healthiest way to live is to exercise regularly and we will be there, in the community to fill that gap, this gym is aimed at helping the community to stay healthy and look after their bodies We would like the gym to grow within the community and if we are to branch out we would go to places similar to Katutura” Dr Chinyoka said. The gym offers selectorised machines, treadmills, aerobics studios, yoga, pilates, body conditioning, spinning, outdoor bicycle and even hip hop dance classes. The official opening was done by the Mayor of Windhoek, Muezee Kazapua, who said he is pleased that people of Katutura have been given a chance to keep fit in a professional environment. “I will like to invite all residents of Katutura to come and utilize this facility. It is important for people to stay healthy and fit. I will come and train here. Pease let us not come and destroy the equipment. Let's look after it, so that many more other gyms are open in Katutura” Kazapua said. The aim of the gym is to bring something positive to previously disadvantaged people. The gym will be open from 5am to 9pm.
